Sandro Chia is one of Italy’s most influential contemporary. With roots in the Italian figurative movement, the Transavanguardia, Chia embraces themes of humanity and its closeness to the natural world. His work often references cultural and historical subjects, including Futurism as well as earlier Italian artwork.
Chia has exhibited at the Biennale of Paris and San Paolo as well as numerous times at the Venice Biennale. In 2003 the Italian State acquired three of Chia’s artworks for the permanent collection of the Italian Senate at Palazzo Madama. The Province of Rome acquired two sculptures by Chia in 2005 for its headquarters.
