Bao Lede

ByrneBao Lede : (b. 1959), the owner and a painter of Tao Water Art Gallery, came to US from China in 1989, and has been living and working on Cape Cod for more than a decade. He graduated from Tianjing Academy of Fine Art in 1984 with BA degree, and then became a teacher in Tianjing Institute of Fine Art. In 1991, he graduated from Pittsburgh State University with MA degree, USA.
When involved with the ’85 New Wave in China, he experimented with collages mixed with painting. His large collage piece “Sun Flower” was included in the famous China/Avant- Guard exhibition in Beijing at 1989. Expressionism has been always his genre. His paintings, in brilliant colors, are painted boldly and dynamically, with gestures, which were clearly influenced by traditional Chinese calligraphy. Perhaps the distance between the United States and China made him think more about his own culture, for he fell in love with ink painting, the beauty of black and white. He uses a lot of black in his paintings. Bao continues his experiments with collage that began fifteen years ago, gluing rice paper on canvas layer by layer, then painting over the result. He is a painter full of an inner energy that emerges in every stroke. His new collage paintings are gentle, but quietly powerful.
